verbs followed by -ing or the infinitive

REMEMBER / FORGET / MEAN / TRY/ CONTINUE / REGRET

 

Read the following story and put the verbs in brackets into the correct form, gerund or infinitive.

As he walked along the street to the theatre, Tom stopped __________ (think). Had he remembered __________ (bring) the tickets? He remembered __________ (buy) them a week before but had he forgotten __________ (put) them in his pocket? He checked his pocket – the tickets were there!

Then another thought crept into his mind. Had he forgotten __________ (lock) the door of his house? He could remember __________ (switch) off the lights, but he had no memory of __________ (lock) the door.

At first he thought that he should stop __________ (worry) and continue __________ (walk) to the theatre, but then he realized that if the door was unlocked, he would regret __________ (go) on his way without __________ (check). He decided __________ (go) back.

Then another thought crept into his mind. Had he forgotten TO LOCK (lock) the door of his house? He could remember SWITCHING (switch) off the lights, but he had no memory of LOCKING (lock) the door.

At first he thought that he should stop WORRYING (worry) and continue WALKING (walk) to the theatre, but then he realized that if the door was unlocked, he would regret GOING (go) on his way without CHECKING  (check). He decided TO GO (go) back.
