Intraversion and Introversion – Cloze Test (Homework for the 5th and 6th November)

Read the text and complete the chart below with a word from the list that comes after the text. Every word can only be used ONCE. There are five words that you do not need to use. Question 0 has been answered as an example.

Extraversion  – Introversion
Ways of Gaining Energy

Extraverts 0) __________ energy through interacting with the outside world. Introverts gain energy through their 1) __________ world. Here’s how this plays out in meetings.

When Extraverts go to meetings, they want:

  • a chance to see people and interact with them.
  • to talk 2) __________ ideas and work together on projects — they find this energizes and stimulates them.
  • a break in their day.
  • a chance to be 3) __________ in the action  – whatever it is.

When Introverts go to meetings, they want:

  • to know the topics beforehand so they can prepare 4) __________ of time, 5) __________ over  the issues.
  • a group where they feel comfortable talking (usually a smaller group of people they know).
  • time for internal processing, then air time for their reflections.
  • focus in depth 6) __________ a subject.
  • a chance to share their knowledge and information that the group is 7) __________ of.
  • to stabilize, calm a group — ask, what are we 8) __________?

Productive meetings for both Extraverts and Introverts
Extroverts and introverts do not necessarily need equal airtime, but to get the best from both, you do need to incorporate a few techniques:

  1. Provide an agenda or a list of topics beforehand.
  2. Give advance 9) __________ to anyone who will present a specific topic.
  3. Use a carousel technique — before leaving a topic, ask if anyone has any 10) __________ questions, contributions, or problems, and go quickly around the group getting a response from everyone (“No, that’s it for me,” “Well, there was one issue I wanted to mention,” etc.).
  4. Remember, Extraverts need time to talk an idea through. A group can label this “Thinking out loud time” and include it in the structure.
